The design of the facade of the church of the Holy Trinity is attributed to Francesco Battaglia: concave and tripartite, the only entrance is preceded by a lava stone staircase. The church, begun in 1740 and finished five years later, has an elliptical plan inspired by the Borrominian model of S. Pug at the 4 fountains. The altars are decorated with valuable paintings by Sozzi (the baptism of Jesus, Crucifixion and the Trinity appears to St. Benedict), and by Sebastiano Conca (the Madonna who appears to St. John the Evangelist on the island of Patmos). Also on Via Vittorio Emanuele, on the area where there was a Roman insula, the convent & nbsp; of the Holy Trinity was built, in which the church is incorporated. The cloistered monastery has an Aragonese fourteenth-century origin and was enlarged in the 16th century during the Spanish era. During the lava flow of 1669, the building was surrounded by magma but remained unharmed. However, a few decades later, in 1693, the devastating earthquake killed 80% of the nuns who were staying there. After the earthquake, the monastery and church were rebuilt by the architects Alonzo Di Benedetto, Giovanni Battista Vaccarini and Antonino Battaglia. After the subversive laws of 1861 and the confiscation by the state, the complex was used for public use. It currently houses the "Enrico Boggio Lera" Liceo Scientifico Statale.
