URSINO LIBRARY RECOVERY

The vast library heritage of the Ursino Recupero library is the result of the merger between the Benedictine library, the Mario Rapisardi library, the Barone Antonio Ursino-Recupero and numerous other collections that have been added over time. It consists of nearly 300,000 volumes that include rarities such as parchments, manuscripts, liturgical and musical books, dry herbaria and paintings. In particular, among the highly prized texts are & nbsp; the illuminated bible of the thirteenth century by Pietro Cavallini, the officium Beatae Mariae Virginis, the printed herbarium by Liberato Sabbati, the martyrology of the thirteenth century and the calendar in Hebrew characters of Rabbi Emmanuel of the thirteenth century. From the outside, approaching the library, you walk through & nbsp; to the right of the basilica of S. Nicolò l'Arena, the garden in via library and then from the catwalks you enter the reading room with the eighteenth-century white furnishings stuccoed in pure gold, the Ursino Recupero room, the corridor of the Elephants and the Guttadauro room with Federico De Roberto's desk . & nbsp; Among the spaces that house the library is the extraordinary Vaccarini room, built after the earthquake of 1693. It has an oval plant and is paved with a refined Vietri ceramic and decorated with the < span> frescoes of the virtues, sciences and arts by G.B. Piparo . In the room there are wooden shelves, on them runs a gallery that allows the preservation of the precious volumes even at a higher level. The room is evenly lit thanks to the large side windows.
