URSINO LIBRARY RECOVERY

The vast book heritage of the Ursino Recupero library is the result of the merger between the Benedictine library, the Mario Rapisardi library, the Baron Antonio Ursino-Recupero library and numerous other collections that have been added over time. It consists of nearly 300,000 volumes that include extraordinary rarities such as parchments, manuscripts, liturgical and musical books, dry herbaria and paintings. And among these rarities, the most extraordinary is Pietro Cavallini's illuminated bible from the 13th century. Among the spaces that house the library is the extraordinary Vaccarini room, built after the earthquake of 1693. It has an oval plant and is paved with a refined Vietri ceramic and adorned with a frescoed ceiling. In the room the wooden shelves follow one another and on it runs a gallery that allows the precious volumes to be preserved even at a higher level. The room is evenly lit thanks to the large side windows.
