The church of San Placido is located in a square near the Cathedral of St. Agatha.
It was built in 1420 on the ruins of an ancient pagan temple dedicated to Bacchus , but during the 1693 earthquake it was completely destroyed and rebuilt by Stephen Ittar, who conveyed the elegance of the Baroque style.
