The location of the market is moved at the end of the 19th century to Piazza Carlo Alberto, in conjunction with its new name that replaced the old name of piano del Carmine and in view of the colonization of the lave to the east of the old town center, according to a new urban development plan aimed at uniting the city with the formerly isolated seaside village of Ognina. The location of Piazza Carlo Alberto is still the site of the historic market held in front of the Shrine of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.

The fair held there today is daily, with the exception of Sundays, and has a wide assortment of products: from gastronomy to clothing, from housewares to ethnic products, to fruit and vegetables and the sale of toys. The market in recent decades has become a true international crossroads, with traders-as well as Italians-of African and Chinese origin.
